East Coast Port Workers Strike Raises Supply Chain Risks — Yet Teguar’s Stock Availability Remains Uninterrupted

In light of the recent port workers strike, Teguar President, Alex Daskalow, endeavored to put out a statement for our valued customers and industry partners. Below is not just a report on the incident, but an assurance to customers: Teguar provides a reliable solution, even in times of supply chain uncertainty.

What happened?

The beginning of this month saw a strike across 36 ports on the East and Gulf Coasts — a work stoppage which has not been seen in equal scope since 1977. Though the strike lasted only 3 days, these ports became backed up with at least 45 vessels unable to unload or retrieve shipping containers.

In the end, the strike was resolved peacefully, with a compromise reached between the union and the port operators. The parties will convene again in January 2025 to review and finalize this agreement. Outlook is optimistic for higher wages and improved working conditions for these port workers.

How is the market affected by a port workers strike?

“In the realm of industrial and medical computers, any supply chain disruption can create significant challenges. These specialized devices often have long lead times due to their customized nature. Delays can lead to failure in manufacturing systems and other operations, and, in the medical sector, patient outcomes could be compromised.”

-Alex Daskalow, President, Teguar

What’s more, as a result of delays, companies may resort to other, more expensive alternatives — such as air freight — to transport goods. These added costs may ultimately be passed on to the consumer until lead times can be regulated again.

Two Teguar employees push a pallet of boxed Teguar products through their warehouse to load onto a truck for shipment.

What can Teguar do?

Fortunately, Teguar has a strong in-house stock of both industrial and medical products at its Charlotte, NC, USA location. This unique position allows us to promise consistent and reliable lead times on a variety of ready-to-ship products for all domestic orders, even in times of supply chain disruption.

This foresight in stock management is our proactive strategy to ensure that customers can take advantage of our Quick Ship products anytime for their computing solutions, without delay or resorting to high-cost alternative shipping methods.

“By choosing Teguar, businesses in healthcare, manufacturing, and other essential sectors can mitigate the risks posed by these disruptions and maintain operational continuity with high-quality industrial and medical-grade computing solutions.”
