Types of Waterproof Computers
Teguar carries 3 main types of waterproof PCs: fully waterproof stainless steel computers, waterproof rugged tablet PCs, and partially waterproof panel PCs and all-in-ones. First, take a quick look at Ingress Protection (IP) ratings:
IP65 | Protection against low pressure water jets spraying from any direction |
IP67 | Protection against immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes |
IP68 | Protection against long periods of immersion and high pressure |
IP69K | Protection against close range, high temperature and high pressure water jets |
Stainless Steel Computers
Teguar stainless steel computers are rated IP66/IP69K. They are equipped with water tight gasketing to prevent ingress of liquids and dust. Stainless steel provides protection from oxidation that would otherwise cause traditional computers to rust over short periods of time.
Teguar’s IP66/IP69K rated waterproof computers include M12 connectors in place of traditional I/O connectors. M12 cables offer locking waterproof connections, so computers in harsh environments can connect with peripherals such as a barcode scanner, scale, sensor, waterproof mouse or a waterproof keyboard.
The other option is a cable gland, which seals out water from the I/O area. See Teguar’s TSC-4010 Series. Traditional cables can be used with these computers and the computers can withstand wash downs and other sanitation procedures.
Waterproof Rugged Tablets
Teguar rugged tablets are built with durable plastic and rubber housing. All Teguar rugged tablets are IP65 rated, so rain, dust and humidity won’t damage the tablet. Some of Teguar’s tablet PCs have the option to be upgraded to IP67, so the tablet can be fully submerged in water. Rugged tablets have tightly sealed rubber I/O plugs that make it easy to integrate peripherals with your system. However when a cable is plugged into the tablet, the tablet is no longer fully waterproof and is susceptible to ingress at the I/O port in use.
Panel PCs and All-in-One Computers
Panel PCs and AOIs are usually not fully waterproof, but sometimes they are front waterproof. This means the rear of the unit is not waterproof, but the front bezel is. Many of Teguar’s medical and industrial computers carry a front IP rating of IP65. This allows users to spray the computer for cleaning, without worry of liquid seeping into crevices around the bezel.
Computers with waterproof front bezels are more clean and sanitary, because a full-flat, waterproof front bezel doesn’t have crevices where dirt and germs can build up. Some of Teguar’s panel PCs are fully waterproof when panel mounted into a cut out enclosure.
Teguar also carries some all-in-one computers that are fully waterproof, including steel enclosures and M12 metal connectors. These are usually the best option for outdoor use. See the TA-A920-15 and TR-0810-15.
