The Teguar Difference

Manufacturing areas are often times very harsh environments, and one of the most invasive sources of contamination in these settings is dust and other airborne particulates such as carbon powder, metallic debris, and oils. When this contamination enters a computer, it coats components and reduces performance, shortens the product life, and can cause outright failure. Teguar fanless panel PCs include unique thermal designs that allow for fanless operation without ventilation holes. Fanless panel PCs are protected from dust contamination, as they do not draw dust into their enclosures.

The Teguar Difference

Teguar’s fanless panel PCs are designed to be mounted into cutouts in enclosures, so the touchscreen human machine interface is flush with the surface. These panel mount computers may be mounted into a door in a cabinet, a Hoffman box, or custom designed enclosures connected to automation equipment such as PLCs or CNC machines. When panel mounted into an enclosure, fanless panel PCs are protected from liquids and dust on the front side. Most of Teguar’s fanless panel PCs are IP66 rated and are available with an optional stainless steel front bezel for a NEMA 4X waterproof rating.

Panel PC vs Industrial Box PC + Touchscreen

The Teguar Difference

Teguar fanless panel PCs are available with either a resistive touchscreen or projected capacitive touchscreen. Resistive touchscreens are still the most prevalent in industrial computer applications, as they are pressure sensitive, which means they can be used with bare hands, gloves, or stylus. Projected capacitive touchscreens (PCAP touchscreen) are becoming more popular for their multi-touch touchscreen capabilities. PCAP touchscreens allow for multiple touch points on one screen, and they have a harder surface than resistive touchscreens, making them more resistant to scratches and other touchscreen damage. Projected capacitive touchscreens work well with bare hands, thin gloves, or a conductive stylus.

The Teguar Difference

Many applications require frequent cleaning. Teguar’s fanless panel PCs excel in these environments, as they have IP66 front panels with optional stainless steel bezels. These fanless panel PCs include a true flat front bezel, where the touchscreen surface mates seamlessly with the panel PC front bezel. Other manufacturers have recessed touchscreens, where the touchscreen surface is on a different plane behind the front bezel, and this is problematic for many applications. Recessed touchscreens have a ledge between the metal bezel and the touchscreen surface, and this area collects debris that is difficult to clean, which can cause false touches, touchscreen failure, and contamination to the production line. The touchscreens on Teguar fanless panel PCs meet seamlessly with the font bezel, so there is not gap where debris can build up and therefore no contamination to the production line and no failure.

Selecting an Industrial Computer for Your Manufacturing Environment

The Teguar Difference

It is important to select an industrial computer with a processor that matches the performance requirements of the application. Teguar fanless panel PCs are available with Intel Core i3/i5/i7 (high performance) processors to meet the needs of the most demanding automation and manufacturing applications. High performance processors can handle applications such as optical inspection, machine vision, data acquisition, or CAD viewing.

The majority of industrial touch screen applications are not processor intensive. In this case, Intel Celeron or Pentium (low performance) processors will get the job done. Applications for low performance processors include HMI (Human Machine Interface), scanning barcodes, weighing materials, and labeling packages.

Teguar also carries a line of Android Panel PCs that run on an ARM Cortex processor. The Android operating system is great for building application-specific software, tailored to your business needs. It is also usually more cost-effective than Windows.
