The Best Touch Screen: PCAP, Resistive, and What Has Changed

by Madelyn Brannan

Industrial and medical computer provider Teguar has been on the computer industry scene since 2010. Its expert staff have been in tech for even longer. With this much experience, you come to witness a lot of change and development in computers and tech. At Teguar, we take it upon ourselves to bring those updates straight to you.

In the past, we have recommended resistive touch screens for certain applications and PCAP touch screens for others. See this video where we talk about what these types are, and the advantages of both.

However—we’ve noticed that, in the past year, PCAP has made great strides to become a viable option for industrial settings. Modern PCAP technology has addressed its prior limitations with the following advancements:

  1. Glove- and wet-capable PCAP: New multi-layer PCAP sensors detect touch through gloves and resist interference from water or oils.
  2. Industrial-grade durability: Laminated PCAP with optical bonding increases mechanical strength, making it suitable for harsh factory floors and medical environments.
  3. Air-bonded touch-display technology: Teguar’s PCAP screens use air bonding to eliminate the gap between the touch sensor and the display. This results in a crisp, clear picture, improving readability and precision for operators.
  4. Anti-glare coating: Teguar PCAP panels feature an anti-glare coating, providing a non-reflective interface that ensures excellent visibility under bright factory lights or direct sunlight.
  5. Enhanced precision and multi-touch: PCAP supports gestures and precise input, which enables advanced HMI interactions, intuitive control, and faster operator workflows.
  6. Better integration with automation software: High-resolution, multi-touch PCAP screens allow for more sophisticated visualizations, easier SCADA or MES navigation, and real-time data interaction.

For these reasons, we now highly recommend PCAP for the majority of applications.

We do still offer resistive touch units for those specific cases where operators need guaranteed heavy-duty glove/tool input or wet-screen reliability, but for a precise display with crystal clear visuals and durability that lasts, Teguar recommends new and improved PCAP screens, which have evolved to outperform resistive.
