Comparing Stainless Steel PCs: I/O Solutions for All-in-Ones

by Madelyn Brannan

The Trident series of stainless steel computers are all IP69K rated for total resistance to dust and water ingress. The Trident series consists of a waterproof embedded IPC, TWB-7010, and two varieties of all-in-one touch screen computer: TS-7010 and TSC-7010.

Both TS-7010 and TSC-7010 feature a 12th Generation Intel® processor, a robust and durable touch screen, and, of course, the IP69K rating. So what’s the difference between them? In this article we’ll explain the one key difference between these two products, how it affects their use, and how to decide which is right for you.

TS-7010: M12 Connectors

The TS-7010 looks quite similar to its relative, the TSC-7010, until you look on the sides with the inputs/outputs. The TS-7010 has what looks like screw-on caps for each of its I/O, known as M12 connectors. Typical plug types such as USB or LAN are adapted to a uniform size and are threaded for a durable and reliable connection.

TSC-7010: Cable Gland Enclosure

The I/O on TSC-7010 will not be as easy to spot as on TS-7010 because they’re hiding behind an enclosure of sorts known as a cable gland. A cable gland can come in many forms, but customarily involves a grommet or gasket that surrounds the cable and is fitted into a tightly sealed enclosure that attaches to the frame.

The Difference: How to Waterproof your I/Os

We now know the primary difference between the TS-7010 and TSC-7010 has to do with the I/O. One has a specialized connector while the other protects standard cable types. How to know which is right for you?

  • Stability: Both options provide a secure closure, but M12 connectors are most firmly attached. The secure threads ensure the connection won’t be accidentally unplugged from vibration or a tug on the cable.
  • Flexibility: M12 connectors are specifically adapted cables meant to work with a specific number of pins, while the cable gland enclosure can seal any I/O cords. If you decide to add or change any connections, the cable gland simply needs to be temporarily removed and then reinstalled after making the change.
  •  Cost: Price will vary depending on your materials and your application. If you have a pre-existing outfitted setup that you want to waterproof, you can work with a cable gland unit using cables you already own, whereas a new unit with M12 connectors will require the added cost of new M12 cables or adapters.
