Teguar Ranks on List of 50 Fastest Growing Companies in Charlotte

For the second year in a row, Teguar has landed on the Charlotte Business Journal’s Fast 50. The Fast 50 list ranks Charlotte area companies based on percentage growth in revenue over a three-year period. Teguar grew 111% over the last three years, which also earned us the #3394 spot on the Inc. 5000 list. Teguar is an industrial and medical computer company whose products have a lifespan of five plus years. Growth in revenue has come from high customer retention, as well as consistent expansion of our customer base.

Teguar will be honored at the Fast 50 virtual event today, December 3rd, at 4pm, when our ranking will be revealed. We are grateful to be a part of Charlotte’s business community and growth. Below, part of Teguar’s leadership team discusses how Teguar landed in Charlotte, our growth through the last decade, working through the pandemic, and what’s in store for Teguar’s future.

Home Grown in Charlotte, NC

Teguar got its start in 2010 in Uptown Charlotte, where Cofounders, Jonathan and Corinne Staub, then resided. They opened an office in Southend in 2011 and then moved the business into a larger office off of Tyvola Road in 2013. In 2021, Teguar will move to a larger facility in the Whitehall area. The new headquarters will give us room to expand and grow over the next several years, particularly our service department and warehouse space. Corinne Staub, Co-Founder and HR Manager, explains how she and Jonathan Staub chose Charlotte and why they’ve stayed for over a decade,

‘In 2009 we were looking for a location on the east coast. We considered factors like cost of living, air quality and airline hub. We thought it would be Philadelphia, but after a visit there, we didn’t have peace and continued our search. We were lead to Charlotte by business connections that Jonathan had here. Our plan was to move to the west coast, but the Southern hospitality, among other things, kept us here. Charlotte is a safe and affordable city to raise a family and a city with great potential for growing businesses. It provides the big city feel but also the small, family feel. That is what Teguar is about as well. We want to be a big player in the global tech field but still have that family feel within the company.’

Expanding Beyond CLT

Today, Teguar has a global presence in the computer hardware space, with offices in Taiwan and Switzerland. The majority of the team at Teguar live and work in Charlotte, but we have several employees spread across the US and partners all around the world. Taipei, Taiwan, where Teguar Taiwan headquarters is located, is the heart of the computer hardware industry, and it’s where many of the components of our computers are manufactured.

How has COVID-19 impacted Teguar?

In the beginning of the pandemic, one of the biggest challenges among computer manufacturers was a delay in parts manufacturing, due to facilities being shut down all over the world, but particularly in China. Luckily, because most Teguar parts are made in Taiwan, we did not experience significant delays.

In the decade since Teguar was founded, we’ve seen year-over-year revenue growth of 20% or higher. The pandemic paused our growth for 2020, but we’re grateful not to have significant losses, and are anticipating a great year in 2021.

Teguar’s Service Department, including the Order Fulfillment, Repair, and Shipping and Receiving Teams, have been working at Teguar headquarters throughout the pandemic, while other departments mostly work remotely. Richard Pikul, Technical Service Manager, shares what it’s been like for his department during the pandemic,

“When leading all the departments that are considered essential here at Teguar, there was an adjustment period back in the beginning of the pandemic. Once we tackled issues like changes to inter-departmental communication, we really started to gain momentum. We are now working more effectively and will come out of this pandemic stronger than when we went into it. Over the past 9+ months we took a host of steps to keep our employees safe and engaged. The results are zero confirmed cases of COVID and an increased departmental engagement in the Service Department.”

What’s next for Teguar?

In 2021, Teguar will gain a significant amount of physical space at the new location. This will have the biggest impact on inventory, repair, shipping and receiving, and order fulfillment spaces. With this, we will bring more of the manufacturing and assembly processes to Charlotte. Our office space will expand as well, with more conference rooms, offices, desk spaces, and collaborative areas. Each department is planning new hires, new initiatives, and overall growth.

Founder and CEO, Jonathan Staub, anticipates a promising future for Teguar in 2021, saying,

“With respect to Teguar’s project pipeline, we are looking at an exciting year ahead. During 2020 a lot of larger projects have been put on hold, due to the uncertainty of how the pandemic would impact the markets. If the vaccine comes and COVID gets under control, I think the outlook for 2021 will be very strong and promising. Our plan is to move in to a much larger facility by March 2021. The new facility will enable us to be more nimble in many ways, but mostly in our production lines. The extra space will help us to speed-up fulfilment times so that we can meet the ever growing expectation of our customers to ship custom configured computers faster.“
